How to cook rice pilaf
Rice is an everyday ingredient being used in many different recipes. Rice on its own can taste a bit bland, so we will make it a bit more tasty with adding some ingredients.

- 300 gram of rice
- 600ml water
- pinch of pepper and salt
- one onion
- 1 table spoon of olive oil
These are the ingredients we use to cook our rice pilaf. You can give the rice a bit more flavour by adding some vegtable or chicken broth to the water. You can finish the dish with some fine cut spring onion and cashew nuts.
Step by Step Instructions
Take the required amount of rice (+/- 75 gram of uncooked rice per person), rinse it in a sieve and drain.
Peel an onion and chop it very finely.
Put a large pot on the fire and heat a dash of olive oil over medium heat. Braise the onion briefly in the oil but do not let it color.
Add water according to the following principle: 1/3 rice with 2/3 water. So for 4 people this means 600ml water on 300gr rice (for more taste the water can be replaced by vegetable or chicken broth)
Let the rice boil with water on a low heat for 10 minutes with a lid on the pot. Stir as little as possible and certainly check the last minutes whether there is any water in the pot. If not add a splash of water.
If after 10 minutes all the water has been absorbed by the rice, taste the rice and season with salt and pepper. Let the rice cook for another 5 minutes in the pot with a lid before serving.
